Hyderabad, Feb 22 (IANS) The Andhra Pradesh assembly remained paralysed for the third consecutive day Tuesday as Telangana legislators stalled proceedings, demanding the house pass a resolution for formation of a separate state for their region.
Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar had to adjourn the house twice amid uproar by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), Communist Party of India (CPI), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Telangana legislators of Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
After adjourning the house for the second time, he began a meeting with the floor leaders of all parties to find a solution to break the impasse.
As soon as the house met for the day, Telangana legislators were on their feet demanding the house take up a resolution on the issue.
They also demanded that the house revoke suspension of five legislators for their unruly behaviour during Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan's address to the joint session of the legislature Feb 17.
Three legislators of the TRS and two of the TDP were suspended by the deputy speaker for one week Friday. The house was adjourned without any business Friday and Monday.
The protest in the house Tuesday coincided with the 48-hour Telangana shutdown called by the Telangana Joint Action Committee.
The legislators rushed to the speaker's podium and raised slogans of 'Jai Telangana' when the deputy speaker asked government chief whip Mallu Batti Vikramarka to initiate the debate on the motion of thanks to the governor for his address.
Amid the din he adjourned the house for the second time.
